ANDREW SMITH KNOWN AS DREW, DIED 10TH APRIL 2007. ANDREW WAS 46 WHEN HE DIED.

ANDREW HAS LIVED IN TENERIFE FOR THE PAST 17 YEARS RUNNING HIS BAR CALLED SMITHYS IN LAS AMERICAS.

ANDREW FOUND OUT HE HAD LUNG CANCER IN MARCH 2006, HE HAD CHEMO AND RADIOTHERAPY OUT IN TENERIFE AND
THE TUMOUR SHRUNK, WE WERE DELIGHTED.IN NOVEMBER 2006 WE GOT A CALL TELLING US THAT DREW WAS IN
INTENSIVE CARE IN A TENERIFE HOSPITAL. MAM AND I GOT THE 1ST FLIGHT OUT THERE TO SEE HIM,

ANDREW WAS MY ONLY BROTHER AND IT WAS SUCH A SHOCK TO SEE HIM SO ILL IN THAT HOSPITAL BED IN
TENERIFE. WE WERE GIVEN THE DREADFULL NEWS THAT IT HAD SPREAD TO HIS PANCREAS AND HE WAS GIVEN A
MAXIMUM 3 MONTHS TO LIVE. MAM AND I FOUGHT TO BRING HIM BACK TO ENGLAND, WHICH WE DID, WE BROUGHT
HIM HOME ON 10TH NOVEMBER WITH A NURSE TO ADMINISTER MORPHINE ON THE FLIGHT.

DREW SPENT HALF OF HIS TIME AT MAMS AND HALF OF HIS TIME WITH ME, WE HAD A WONDERFUL 5 MONTHS
TOGETHER, DRINKING, TALKING LAUGHING, AND AT TIMES CRYING, WE CHOSE NOT TO TELL DREW ABOUT HIS
ILLNESS, AS HE WAS DETERMINED HE WAS GOING BACK TO TENERIFE AFTER XMAS WHEN HE WAS A BIT STRONGER,
EVEN THOUGH MAM AND I HAD TO CLEAR HIS APPARTMENT DURING THAT DREADFULL WEEK THAT WE WERE THERE,
LOOKING BACK NOW, I DONT KNOW HOW WE GOT THROUGH THAT WEEK.

WHEN WE WERE YOUNG, DREW AND I FOUGHT LIKE CAT AND DOG, MANY A TIME I COULD HAVE KILLED HIM, BUT....
AS WE GOT OLDER AND CLOSER, I WOULD HAVE KILLED ANYONE WHO HURT HIM.

HE HAD A WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOUR,WAS VERY SACRCASTIC AND THE BEST BROTHER ANYONE COULD HAVE, HE
WANTED TO LEARN HOW TO USE A PC AND ORDER THINGS FROM THE INTERNET FOR THE NEW BUSINESS HE WANTED TO
SET UP WHEN HE GOT BACK TO HIS BELOVED TENERIFE, SO HUSEYIN AND I SPENT HOURS ON THE PC WITH HIM,
DREW WAS DELIGHTED, WE WERE HEARTBROKEN SEEING HIM SO EXCITED BUT KNOWING HIS PLANS WOULD COME TO
NOTHING.

ANDREW LIVED FOR 5 MONTHS, HE MADE IT TO MOTHERS DAY, BUT THEN HE STARTED TO GO DOWNHILL, THE LAST 3
WEEKS OF HIS LIFE WERE SOOO SAD, BUT AGAIN, DURING THAT TIME HE MADE US ALL LAUGH SO MUCH,
THAT WAS DREW, A BLOODY GOOD LAUGH. IF DREW WAS IN YOUR COMPANY YOU COULD GUARANTEE A GOOD NIGHT.
GOD I LOVED HIM SOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

DREW DIED IN THE ARMS OF HIS MUM. I HAD SAT UP ALL NIGHT WITH HIM, HIS BREATHING STARTED TO CHANGE,
SO I WOKE MAM UP JUST AFTER 2 AM, AS SHE SAT BESIDE HIM AND TOOK HIM IN HER ARMS, HE LOOKED AT HER,
SMILED, AND DIED AT 2:15 am, HE WENT SO PEACEFULLY, I WAS GLAD OF THAT, HUSEYIN AND I WERE WITH HIM
AND WE WERE SO PRIVELIDGED TO SEE HIM ON HIS WAY TO A BETTER LIFE, PAIN FREE AT LAST. MISSING DREW
SOO MUCH DREW, WISH I COULD JUST HAVE ONE MORE HUG FROM YOU, AND ONE MORE SMILE.

SO ALL OF YOU PEOPLE WHO KNEW DREW, AND EVEN THOSE OF YOU WHO DIDNT BUT TOOK TIME TO VISIT THIS
SITE, PLEASE LEAVE A LITTLE MESSAGE ON HERE FOR MAM AND I, IT WILL HELP TO EASE OUR PAIN A BIT I
HOPE.

MISSING YOU SO MUCH DREW, YOU WERE A FANTASTIC BROTHER AND IT WAS WONDERFULL TO GROW SO CLOSE TO YOU
OVER THE LAST 5 MONTHS.

you really are.............SIMPLY THE BEST !!!!!!!!

Hi just passing through, sorry for your loss of andrew. Cancer is such a horrible disease, my dad passed away from cancer it will be two years tomorrow for him, and it still feels like yesterday, when it happened. Andrew will be free from pain and suffering now, sleep well with the angels and say hi to dad for me, if you see him. Thinkin of you all at this time. xxx

To all those who love and miss Drew

I did't know Drew, but I can see from the picture and from the lovely tribute that he would be someone I would have liked. He had lovely, kind, twinkly eyes and a cheeky sort of smile.
It must have been heartbreaking for you to watch your lovely brother fight this horrible disease, my heart goes out to you and all of your family.
Andrew will be watching over you, taking care of you. He will never be far away.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, I welcome you.

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too,
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
Then you can say to God at night - My day was not in vain.
And now I am contented, that my life has been worthwhile,
Knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go, from that body to be free,
Remember you're not going, you're coming here to me.
